I never played sports growing up.
PSA: I still don’t!
Having a coach of any kind was a foreign concept to me. I thought for sure, I did not need or want a coach: I am not an athlete!
“Katie’s your coach,” my husband uttered out of no where a few months after we adopted our 7-year old mix Corgi, back in 2011.
“Why do you say that?” I asked him.
“You’ve changed! For the better!” he reasoned.
To be honest, I was not looking for change when we got the dog. I was merely performing what I thought was my duty as a dog owner: to walk our dog regularly, no matter what.

Before Katie, I had a rough routine to my days.
Although I was active, I was not a regular walker. I was definitely not a podcast-listener. I did not know what a podcast was! A friend had to show me how to access the portal that would become a doorway to SO MANY new resources, education, entertainment.
With Katie as an accountability walking partner, I organized my day differently. Soon a concrete pattern developed around our walks. Within a few weeks, I started to feel better physically and my mind felt more expansive from listening to podcasts than ever before.
I also felt more calm – probably because walking is very meditative to the brain.
Gradually, the new routine transformed me into a new, healthier, more engaged and excited version of myself.
It would not have happened if I did not have a “coach”!
Thank you, Katie, for being my very first coach. I love you. May you rest in peace.
The transformation I experienced with Katie made me curious. If a dog could coach me into a different version of me, what can a human coach do for me?
I started exploring the world of coaching (it’s vast) and learned how it was different from therapy, counseling, or mentoring.
There are overlaps, of course. When we decide to work on ourselves with a professional, there will be some common themes amongst different professionals.
Since Katie, I’ve invested in several health, life and business coaches to improve many different areas of my life.
I gladly hire them to help teach me new tools, keep me accountable, set goals and achieve things I didn’t know was possible.
I can now share with personal experience that:
- Coaching helps us translate what we want in our mind, into actions and results.
- Coaching helps us see why we are stuck in certain areas.
- Coaching teaches us skills to take action, improve, continue to move forward despite discomfort and challenges.
Results are so transformative that I became a certified life and health coach myself.
There is nothing more satisfying than to see my coaching clients gain clarity, set and meet their goals and create and live a life that is truly satisfying and fulfilling to them.
Coaching, simply put, helps you reach your potential.
The best part of it is?
You don’t have to be an athlete to experience it!
